Brazil Gateway Forum on Climate Change explored agriculture, sustainability

“The green revolution of the 21st century must be soil based,” said Rattan Lal, distinguished university professor in the School of Environment and Natural Resources. Lal delivered a keynote address at the Brazil Gateway Forum on Climate Change, sharing his research-backed paradigm that healthy soil leads to healthier people and ecosystems.

Why is Brazil an important gateway for Ohio State? 

Brazil is a strategic country to connect Ohio State to the Latin American region. It serves as a gateway to attract students, develop research and creative collaborations, facilitate study abroad opportunities/experience, start partnerships, connect alumni, etc. The Ohio State University Brazil Gateway connects Ohio State faculty, staff, and students to partners in academic, corporate, governmental, and non-governmental organizations. 

Committee for at-risk scholars and artists launched

The Ohio State University has joined a coalition of colleges and universities offering their help in protecting scholars displaced by turmoil in their home countries.

On October 25, prospective students, parents and Ohio State alumni gathered at the China Gateway office in Shanghai for a lecture by Professor Caroline Wagner from the John Glenn College of Public Affairs.

China Gateway connects with prospective students across China

Throughout autumn of 2023, China Gateway played an important role in establishing connections between students, parents and The Ohio State University in China. In the realm of undergraduate recruitment, the China Gateway team participated in 38 high school visits and college fairs, resulting in meaningful interactions with over 3,000 students and parents from more than 10 different cities such as Suzhou, Hangzhou, Beijing, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Dalian and Harbin.

Alumni Spotlight: Joshua Melching

Joshua Melching, '13 Chinese language and literature and 16' political science, has established a successful career working and living in China after his time at Ohio State. After a foray into supporting WeWork's expansion in Shanghai, he has gone on to a role as client business director for JWDK, a design firm specializing in cultural and place identity in China. Melching shares more about his passion for bridging cultures, what it's like to be a part of the Buckeye family and his advice for current students. 

Honoring the late Professor Mark Sulc

Professor Mark Sulc was an extension state specialist for forage production at The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). Sulc was born on September 29, 1957, in Hagerstown, MD, but spent most of his childhood in Brazil, where his parents were missionaries. He moved back to the states and attended Iowa State University, where he earned his bachelor’s and master's degrees from the Department of Agronomy.

Alumni Club of South India wins “Outstanding Club of the Year” title

Even before it was officially chartered by The Ohio State University Alumni Association in May 2022, the Alumni Club of South India (ACSI) started planning activities and the events for the alumni in four major states in the south of India.

Fisher continues to broaden the scope of engagements in India

Aravind Chandrasekaran, associate dean, graduate programs and executive education, travelled to India in October to expand the scope of partnerships the Fisher College of Business maintains with local businesses. Chandrasekaran traveled to Pune and Nashik to meet with partners at Tata Motors and Mahindra. He met with Mahindra’s manufacturing plant department heads at Nasik.
