Paying Tuition

For new students

  • Please note that you cannot pay your bill from the university until after you have registered for classes, which you can do after check-in.
  • Please do not carry large sums of cash to the United States. The University Bursar does not accept cash as a form of payment. It is best to set up a U.S. checking account and then have money wired from home to the account. We can provide additional information on banking in the U.S. during check-in, or you may read the banking section on our website.

For all students

  • Tuition and fees are due one week (seven calendar days) before the beginning of each term unless otherwise noted on your Statement of Account (your bill from the university). Students who arrive for check-in and orientation with the Office of International Affairs after the payment deadline should look at their Statement of Account for their due date.
  • Once you have a U.S. checking or savings account, the easiest way to pay your fees is to use Ohio State's secure ePayment site. Tuition and fees can be paid through your Student Center account on the Student Information System (SIS) by clicking the Make a Payment link in the Finances section.
  • You can also pay your fees by MasterCard, Discover, VISA and American Express through the online ePayment site. Note: credit card companies charge a non-refundable 2.85% fee for all transactions.
  • You can also pay using foreign currency through the online ePayment site. Note: currency conversion rates are updated daily and effective for 72 hours after the point of transaction. Foreign currency ePayments are pending until the wire transfer of funds from the bank is completed. Learn more about how to make ePayments.
  • Someone else can pay your fees by check (from a U.S. bank account) as long as payment is made to The Ohio State University and includes your university identification number. (This number is listed on your acceptance letter).
  • Payment via mail
    • You can send a personal check, money order, or cashier check (all from a U.S. account) with your university identification number to:

    • If you have an external scholarship check or other third-party payment, the payment should be written in U.S dollars and mailed to:

    • Please remember to indicate your university identification number.
  • Payment in person
    • Please take your check (from a U.S. account) to the Payment Drop Box in the lobby of the Student Academic Services Building, 281 West Lane Ave., Columbus, OH.
    • Please note: cash is not accepted for payment of tuition and fees.
  • Tuition Option Payment Plan (TOPP)
    • If you are not able to pay your entire bill at the beginning of the semester, the university offers a tuition payment plan that lets you split up your payments. Learn more about TOPP.
  • Late fees
    • Fees not paid by the deadline will be subject to university late fees. The Housing Office may assess separate late fees. Students who fail to pay tuition and fees by the initial due date will be assessed a $200 late fee, which will increase to $300 if tuition and fees are not paid by the second Friday of the semester.
  • Statement of Account
    • Account Statement (bill). Your Statement of Account can be accessed in your Student Center by clicking on Account Inquiry, located in the Finances section of your Student Center page. On the Activity tab, you will find outstanding charges that are due on your account. Your student username and password will be required to access the Statement of Account. Set up your Ohio State username and password if you haven't already.
