Due to recently announced federal immigration rule changes affecting international students and visiting scholars in the United States, immigration information on this website is subject to change. The new rule takes effect on September 15, 2026. Ohio State is reviewing the changes and will update this website as additional information becomes available.

Vacation Term

Full-time enrollment is required for all F-1 and J-1 students during the autumn and spring semesters. All students will automatically be granted a vacation term for each summer semester, unless it is the student’s first term of enrollment or graduating term.

Vacation term limits are unrelated to the Reduced Course Load procedure. As an F-1 and J-1 student, you may still be authorized to enroll below full-time during your final semester before graduation if you file the Final Term – Reduced Course Load application before the first day of classes for the term.
