Alumni Spotlight: Conan Cao

Meet Conan Cao, a passionate Ohio State alumnus (’20 economics, and public management, leadership and policy) dedicated to public service. Cao currently serves as deputy secretary general at Love Save Pneumoconiosis, a non-profit organization based in Beijing dedicated to helping the more than 6 million migrant workers who are suffering from this debilitating respiratory disease in China.

Faculty grants will support Area Studies Centers engagement

The Office of International Affairs is seeking applications for its Faculty Research, Teaching and Outreach Grant. The grant supports faculty working on projects that align with the mission and current engagement initiatives of the university’s five Area Studies Centers and their respective regions of the world. Proposed activities should be directly connected to Africa, East Asia, Latin America, Middle East or Eastern Europe and Eurasia.

Moritz College of Law Assistant Dean Tra Pham visits India

Tra Pham, assistant dean, graduate and international affairs, Moritz College of Law, traveled to India from March 28 to April 5, to visit top-ranked law colleges in India to discuss potential collaboration and partnerships. Assistant Dean Pham also met with one of India's top law firms to explore experiential learning opportunities for Moritz law students.

Admitted student outreach

The India Gateway team conducted outreach with undergraduate students joining Ohio State in fall 2023. The team responded to questions about scholarships, next steps, housing, financial aid, campus, and more.

Alumni Spotlight: Vishwanath Swarup

“Being part of a large campus, I think that’s one of my fondest memories. The breadth of courses that Ohio State offers is unparalleled,” recalls Vishwanath Swarup, ‘04 MS industrial and systems engineering. Ohio State’s flexibility in course offerings allowed Swarup take courses at the Fisher College of Business while being a student in the College of Engineering.

Meli Bees offers internship to Ohio State student

The Brazil Gateway continues to strengthen its relationship with Meli Bees, a nonprofit working to protect the Meli stingless bees in indigenous, quilombola, campesino or other rural and urban communities in the most endangered areas of the Amazon Rainforest. Through environmental education and knowledge generation, Meli Bees helps communities create environmentally and economically sustainable activities that allows both land and people to flourish.

Consultants complete Center for Operational Excellence program

Founded in 2003 out of the technology incubator of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro as a management and technology consulting company, Visagio is now a global business development transformation platform with projects delivered across more than 40 countries. With offices in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Recife, Brazil; Perth and Sydney, Australia; and London, United Kingdom, Visagio has a long-standing partnership with The Ohio State University, mainly with the Fisher College of Business.

China Gateway engages with admitted students

The China Gateway continues to partner with undergraduate admissions in the Office of Student Academic Excellence to host yield events for first-year admitted students. The events aim to give students insight into why Ohio State is the best place to start their college career in the United States.

Buckeye Panel Series engages alumni in China

More than 50 Ohio State alumni and friends attended the third Buckeye Panel on March 19. The virtual event was hosted by the Chengdu Alumni Club. Weiguo Sun (PhD, Chemistry ‘92) and Ming Pu (PhD, Mathematics ‘07) shared their insight and advice on personal and professional development. They also discussed their views on the importance of choosing a career path after graduation, and how to make best use of a study abroad experience to enhance career development.
