Ohio State professors engage Brazilian audiences

In November and December, Fabio Leite, an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at the Lima Campus, taught the virtual workshop “Developing Intercultural Competence: A preparation to study, research or work in another culture or interact with other cultures.” Over 100 Brazilian students and professionals registered to attend the four-part workshop series.

Ohio State alumna publishes book with Brazilian teacher

Marla Goins, PhD '20, published the book “A Amiga Estadunidense da Abayomi” in collaboration with Maria Aline Soares, a teacher and activist in Brazil. Goins earned her doctorate from the College of Education Human Ecology and was a visiting research fellow at the University of São Paulo in 2018 and 2019-2020 as part of her doctoral studies in the Teaching and Learning program.

Fisher College of Business first to travel to Brazil since 2020

For the first time since 2020, Ohio State students studied abroad in Brazil. The Fisher College of Business Honors Cohort education abroad program provided Ohio State students an opportunity to work with Brazilian students on a case for a company, understand the opportunity and challenges associated with a major emerging market and become immersed in Brazilian culture.

Facilitating Fisher Global Lab to Taiwan

The China Gateway and Alumni Club of Taiwan assisted the Office of Global Business to plan the Global Lab to Taiwan, a 10-day faculty-led education abroad program in May 2023. This is the first education abroad program to China since 2019. Global Labs are immersive cultural and business tours led by a Fisher College of Business faculty expert. These short-term, high intensity programs offer a quick survey of different business specializations and regions of the world.

Singh named director of India Gateway

The Office of International Affairs is pleased to announce that Shambhavi Singh has joined Ohio State as the next India Gateway director in Mumbai. Her first day was February 15.

Ohio State ranked a top producer of Fulbright U.S. scholars and students

The Ohio State University is among only nine doctoral institutions in the country to be named a top producer for both Fulbright U.S. scholar and U.S. student programs, according to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs. This is the second consecutive year that Ohio State has been ranked in both categories.

Ohio State is tied for 4th nationally with seven Fulbright scholar awards and is tied for 18th with 12 Fulbright student awards for the 2022-23 academic year.

Resources to support a diverse and inclusive campus

Ohio State is committed to a safe and welcoming campus, a comprehensive and inclusive education, and a truly anti-racist community for all. All too often there are examples of antisemitism, racism and other hateful behavior reported in the national news.

Diversity and inclusion are essential components of Ohio State's excellence, and the university's shared values establish the commitment to reinforce an ethical culture. There is no place for hate at Ohio State. 

Brazil Gateway represents Ohio State at internationalization events

Jane K. Aparecido, Brazil Gateway director, was invited to represent Ohio State in events held by two prestigious public Brazilian universities.

On November 22, Aparecido, spoke about Ohio State’s internationalization strategy during the Internationalization Forum at São Paulo State University (UNESP) to around 150 UNESP staff and faculty.

Fisher hosted virtual information session at Beijing Jiaotong University

The Fisher College of Business hosted a virtual graduate programs information session for students of Beijing Jiaotong University on November 22. Dan Kieffer, Fisher College of Business senior assistant director of MBA recruiting and admissions, hosted the session.

CLAS and School of Music host residency in Brazil

The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) and the Ohio State School of Music developed a partnership for a series of academic exchange events in 2022 and 2024. In September, Ohio State welcomed three artists from Brazil who hosted master classes and a recital and performed in the Latin American Music Celebration Concert. They also met with the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and visited local schools.
