Flag football game hosted by Shanghai Alumni Club

The Shanghai Alumni Club kicked off a flag football game series for Big Ten university alumni in Shanghai.

More than 20 Ohio State alumni participated in the game held on October 16. Local high school students from Minhang Crosspoint Academy and Shanghai Star River Bilingual School and their parents were invited to the game by the China Gateway. This game provided students with the opportunity to connect with Buckeye alumni and learn more about Ohio State and the China Gateway.

Alumni Club of South India convenes first board meeting

The Alumni Club of South India (ACSI) convened its first board meeting on September 11, with Shankar Venkatachalam, president; Rajesh Durairaj, treasurer; and Archana Pothina, secretary, meeting via zoom to discuss the formation of ACSI, outline the roles and responsibilities of club leadership, and plan alumni-related events and activities for the calendar year.

Rattan Lal receives Padma Shri award

Distinguished University Professor Rattan Lal recently earned India’s prestigious Padma Shri award for his innovative research and sustainable farming practices that address food insecurity and mitigate climate change. Padma Shri is India’s fourth highest civilian honor and recognizes individuals for their distinguished service in any field.

China Gateway continues to support undergraduate recruitment efforts

The China Gateway participated in an undergraduate tour in September and continued their partnership with the Office of Student Academic Excellence to support recruitment of new Buckeyes.

The recruitment tour began in September with visits to high schools and meetings with counselors in Beijing, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Suzhou, Changshu, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. In partnership with the Office of Student Academic Excellence, the China Gateway attended fairs, visited schools and hosted online information sessions to support students and their applications to Ohio State.

Fulbright U.S. student awards announced

The Ohio State University is pleased to announce that 10 undergraduates and two doctoral candidates received prestigious U.S. Student Fulbright Awards for the 2022-2023 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Rajmohan Gandhi: Lessons on reconciliation

Rajmohan Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, has dedicated his life’s work to preserving his grandfather’s legacy of nonviolence and reconciliation. A historian, biographer and human rights activist, Gandhi shared his insight with the Ohio State community on September 7 when he delivered two lectures. His talks focused on the 1947 partition of India and the critical message of peaceful resolution left by one of the world’s best known political and spiritual leaders.

Fellow Buckeyes connect across Greater China

Sixteen Ohio State alumni joined the inaugural Virtual Buckeye Happy Hour on August 17 to connect with fellow Buckeyes across the Greater China region. The new program, which will be held every quarter, is facilitated by the China Gateway with support from The Ohio State University Alumni Association (OSUAA) and alumni clubs in the region.

A 2022 look at Gandhi, his thinking and his critics

Rajmohan Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, will present "A 2022 Look at Gandhi, His Thinking, and His Critics," on Wednesday, September 7 at 2 p.m. in the Round Meeting Room at the Ohio Union. 

India Buckeyes meet virtually

The Alumni Club of South India and the India Gateway jointly organized a couple of virtual alumni get togethers over International Yoga Day on June 21 and on July 2 for a session on 3-D Printing.

Alumni Club of South India established

The Alumni Club of South India was established in May 2022. The new club is based in Chennai and will focus on alumni engagement in four states: Andhra Pradesh-Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nādu, Kerala. This is the second alumni club in India, the Alumni Club of India was established in 2018 and is based near Delhi.
