Senior radiation oncology delegates from The James Comprehensive Cancer Center Dr. Arnav Chakravarti’s research lab visited India in March. The Ohio State delegation visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi on March 6 to further a collaboration initiated back in 2016. The discussion centered on developing training programs for resident oncologists that included blended online training modules and also a forum discussion series to accomplish bilateral training on FLASH / Proton Beam. The meeting also sparked interest in developing joint publications.
The delegation next visited Tata Medical Centre (TMC) on March 8 where Kimberly Mahler, research project manager and Nilendu Gupta, chief of medical physics, presented on the James Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Ohio State delegation was impressed with Dr. Sanjoy Chatterjee’s presentation on the inception of TMC and how his team helped set up the facility. Dr. Santam Chakraborty presented on India’s first image bank – ‘CHAVI’, which was developed in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur. Areas of potential collaboration including medical physics, tissue bank, AI and joint publications were identified.
In addition to Mahler and Gupta, the delegation included Julie Sussi, chief administrative officer, Raghu Machiraju, professor, computer science and engineering, Jahar Haque, senior scientist and Sagarika Jain, radiation oncology medical physicist.
