Medical Emergencies

In the event of an emergency requiring hospitalization or immediate medical care:

  1. Locate help
    1. For urgent medical assistance, call the local equivalent of 911 or go to the nearest hospital or doctor
  2. Contact GeoBlue Global Health and Safety Services:
    1. +1-610-254-8771 (24/7 outside the United States)
    2.  globalhealth@geo-blue.com
  3. When you contact GeoBlue, you:
    1. Will need to provide your name; policy certificate number; the name, address and phone number of the hospital or medical facility; and the name of any treating medical professional.
    2. May be able to arrange a guarantee of payment for services.
    3. Will benefit from GeoBlue’s commitment to monitoring your care and its assistance with authorizing and arranging any continued care or additional support.
  4. If you have a designated in-country emergency contact, such as a faculty resident director, an on-site director, or other program leader, be in touch with this person as soon as possible.
  5. If you do not have a designated in-country emergency contact or you cannot reach the contact, contact the Ohio State 24/7 International Emergency Phone Line at +1-614-292-6677.
    1. Identify yourself as an Ohio State student traveling abroad.
    2. Provide your exact location.
    3. Provide contact information, in multiple forms if possible such as phone number, SMS, email or Skype.
    4. Inform the responder of the health concern.
    5. Answer any additional questions requested.

The Department of Public Safety will contact Global Health and Safety or another first responder to return your call and provide further assistance and instructions.
