In the waivers and release section of the global education program application, applicants complete a FERPA release form. Ohio State will only use that information if a traveler:
- Is unable to speak for themselves
- Is perceived to be a danger to themselves or others
- Fails to comply with legitimate directives of university officials
- Is in a location directly impacted by a significant health, safety or security incident such as civil unrest, act of terrorism or a significant natural disaster.
In all other instances, we expect travelers to maintain contact with their family and supporters unless a specific request has been made for the global health and safety team or other university staff to be in contact.
