The India Gateway and the Alumni Club of South India made sure the newest Buckeyes from India would be well prepared for the first day of classes at The Ohio State University by hosting send-off events in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Close to 50 students and their families participated in the gatherings, which fostered connections and provided insight from alumni and current students about university life, the campus environment, food options and a myriad of opportunities.

Chavan selected as a 2023 alumni award honoree
Madhav Chavan '83 PhD, a distinguished chemist turned educator, is this year's recipient of the Robert M. Duncan Alumni Citizenship Award. Chavan has been recognized by The Ohio State University Alumni Association for his exceptional contributions to education and transforming the lives of underprivileged children in his native India.
Şahin appointed new VP for global strategies
The Ohio State University has selected Kaya Şahin, PhD, as its next vice provost for global strategies and international affairs, effective Nov. 1. Şahin currently serves as executive associate dean of the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University (IU).

The Ohio State University has been named one of the world’s top universities, according to the 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings released today. Ohio State is ranked 151st in the world and 35th in the United States.
GOHi hosts biosafety and biosecurity training
The Global One Health initiative (GOHi) collaborated with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) to train 26 health professionals from severe acute respiratory infections (SARI)/influenza-like illness (ILI) sites and influenza testing laboratories on specimen management, biosafety and biosecurity for three days.
The training aimed to improve specimen collection, storage and packaging and the referral system for testing respiratory infections, including influenza, COVID-19 and Respiratory Syncytia Viruses (RSV).
Moritz College of Law Assistant Dean Tra Pham visits India
Tra Pham, assistant dean, graduate and international affairs, Moritz College of Law, traveled to India from March 28 to April 5, to visit top-ranked law colleges in India to discuss potential collaboration and partnerships. Assistant Dean Pham also met with one of India's top law firms to explore experiential learning opportunities for Moritz law students.
Admitted student outreach
The India Gateway team conducted outreach with undergraduate students joining Ohio State in fall 2023. The team responded to questions about scholarships, next steps, housing, financial aid, campus, and more.
Alumni Spotlight: Vishwanath Swarup
“Being part of a large campus, I think that’s one of my fondest memories. The breadth of courses that Ohio State offers is unparalleled,” recalls Vishwanath Swarup, ‘04 MS industrial and systems engineering. Ohio State’s flexibility in course offerings allowed Swarup take courses at the Fisher College of Business while being a student in the College of Engineering.
Radiation oncology delegation visits India
Senior radiation oncology delegates from The James Comprehensive Cancer Center Dr. Arnav Chakravarti’s research lab visited India in March.
Academic directors for Global Gateways appointed
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) has appointed three Ohio State faculty members to serve as academic directors for the Global Gateways, Ohio State’s liaison offices in China, India and Brazil. In addition to their faculty appointments, they will serve as part-time senior advisors for the Global Gateways and connect with Ohio State’s 15 colleges and regional campuses to identify new partnership opportunities abroad.
