GOHi helps establish two molecular diagnostics labs in Ethiopia

The Ohio State Global One Health initiative (GOHi), through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, helped establish advanced molecular diagnostic laboratory capabilities. These labs will strengthen the national surveillance and response system by enabling the detection of infectious diseases such as influenza, COVID-19 and other pathogens of public health significance.

This study will involve more than 14,000 households in Ethiopia.

Risk ranking exercise conducted on food hazards in Ethiopia

Ethiopia bears a significant burden of foodborne illnesses. The Global One Health initiative (GOHi) has been working on the Assessment and Risk Management of Foodborne Illnesses (TARTARE) – a food safety project – since 2019. The overarching goal of this project is to reduce morbidity and mortality from foodborne diseases.

GOHi supports causality assessment in Ethiopia

Ohio State’s Global One Health initiative (GOHi) is supporting the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) in undertaking a causality assessment of adverse events following immunizations (AEFI), mainly with COVID-19 vaccines, that were reported to the pharmacovigilance system. As part of GOHi’s continued support to the EFDA, 30 participants – including members of the pharmacovigilance advisory committee, experts of the pharmacovigilance team at EFDA and advisors – conducted the assessment on July 19 and 20.
