An aviation management major in the Fisher College of Business from Oman, Hamza Al Balushi shares his “Your America in 250 Words” essay.
"When I left Oman to pursue my education at The Ohio State University, I knew I was beginning an academic journey. What I did not fully realize was how profoundly this experience would shape the person I am becoming.
Living in America has taught me that growth often begins when we step beyond what is familiar. Thousands of miles away from my family and home, I have learned to embrace independence, build meaningful relationships, and discover opportunities that once seemed beyond my imagination.
At Ohio State, I have had the privilege of serving as President of the Omani Student Association, working across different university departments, and connecting with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Each experience has strengthened my confidence, broadened my perspective, and reminded me that leadership is not about recognition, but about making a positive difference in the lives of others.
What I treasure most about my American experience is not simply what I have achieved, but the people who have supported me, the challenges that have helped me grow, and the moments that have taught me gratitude.
America has become more than a place where I study. It is a place where I continue to discover my potential, develop my dreams, and create memories that will remain with me wherever life takes me.
I arrived from Oman with ambitions. I am building a future with purpose, gratitude, and a deeper understanding of the world."
