Dreams are meant to come true. Not long ago, studying and living in the United States was only a distant dream for me. Growing up in Uruguay, I could hardly imagine that one day I would travel thousands of miles to pursue a PhD in Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University. Yet, step by step, effort by effort, that dream became a reality. Through the Fulbright Program, I came to the United States and began a journey that has transformed both my professional and personal life.

Before coming here, I knew many American scientists through research papers, conferences, and online seminars. Some were professors whose work I had studied and admired from thousands of miles away. Today, I have the privilege of walking into their laboratories, sitting with them in their offices, discussing scientific questions, and learning directly from people who have helped shape Animal Sciences.

For me, America has become a place where the distance between aspiration and reality feels smaller. It has taught me that opportunities become meaningful when combined with effort, curiosity, and a willingness to learn from others.

Beyond academics, America has also meant discovering new cultures and communities. From the energy of Columbus to everyday life in Wooster, I have experienced different sides of the country. Despite their differences, what stays with me most is the kindness of the people I have met, their openness to different backgrounds, and a spirit of collaboration that has made me feel welcome far from home."
