Saron Checkole, a second-year emergency medicine resident, recently traveled to Ethiopia to complete a month-long rotation at one of the biggest community and clinical training hospitals in the nation.

Kshipra Mandlecha, originally from Nashik, India, is a second year international student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Managerial Economics from the Max M. Fisher College of Business. She is also an Entrepreneurship and Innovation Scholar, which is a two-year program under the Keenan Centre of Entrepreneurship. She shares her journey at Ohio State with the hope of encouraging others to become Buckeyes for Life.

“I am in awe of and incredibly grateful for how enriching and life-changing my Fulbright experience has been,” shares Selina Vickery, an Ohio State medical student. Vickery was awarded the Fulbright Queen Mary, University of London Award via the US-UK Fulbright Commission.

Across institutions and borders, experts from many disciplines are working together to envision a healthier world through GOHi. Their work is based on One Health principles, which the World Health Organization describes as an “integrated, unifying approach to balance and optimize the health of people, animals and the environment.”

Roger Williams is a connector. As the academic director of the China Gateway, he works to foster collaboration among faculty and staff at Ohio State and partners in China.

Lode Saliba Raffoul ’84 has put everything she learned during her time at The Ohio State University to good use in her native country of Brazil. Saliba Raffoul’s Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics came in handy three years ago when she began working as a beekeeper on an apiary she and her siblings inherited from their parents in Borebi, São Paulo.

Second-year Cordelia Van der Veer attended the United Nations Climate Change COP 28 conference in Dubai UAE in 2023.

My education abroad experience was memorable because it was student-driven! Our trip to Dubai was the first time Ohio State had taken students to the U.N. Climate Summit, so students played an important part in shaping the program. When we were in Dubai, we decided what events and opportunities were most important to us.

Ariana Gill is a junior studying animal science and religious studies. She traveled abroad to Ireland as part of the Human and Animal Interactions program over winter break 2023.

What made my education abroad fun was how I got to be involved in a program that is aligned with my major. I am an animal science major and animals are my biggest passion, so going Ireland to not only experience another country but to visit some animals and learn about their ways of caring for them was very cool and something I will remember for the rest of my life. 

Heather Schwab is a junior studying chemical engineering with a minor in humanitarian engineering. She studied abroad in Guyana on the Humanitarian Engineering and Culture in Guyana program during winter break 2023.
