Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Buckeyes Abroad: Colton Gorsuch

One way that this experience will help me move forward in my career is the language aspect. Going on this study abroad and learning German is also very beneficial to my future career path. I am currently in the Army ROTC program here at Ohio State and being able to have that language skill sets you apart from others and allows a large field of opportunities,” reflected history major Colton Gorsuch on the Dresden Summer Language Program.

Led by the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures, students spend eight weeks in an intensive language and culture program offered at the Technische Universität Dresden.

“It was important for me to go abroad because I would be connecting with my roots. I have family that comes from Germany and in our household, we eat German food nearly every week.”

In addition to classroom instruction offered by Ohio State German instructors and guest lecturers, students will participate in group field trips and have ample opportunities to explore on their own.

“What made my study abroad experience memorable was the language and the people. I had only started learning German two years prior to coming and only knew a little bit. The people here, both the locals and my teacher, were able to help me with my language speaking and comprehension abilities,” said Gorsuch.

“Something that I've learned about myself is that I can adapt to places very easily. At first, I was very uneasy about coming here and I didn't know what to expect. But after being here for a week I quickly adjusted and was able to find my way around.”
