My experience was made memorable by getting to experience a new culture and learning about the culture through the lens of a local Panamanian. My favorite memory from the trip was going to the children’s school and making arts and crafts Christmas presents with them for their families.

It was important for me to go abroad because it gives me the opportunity to understand the world more and how different cultures interact with each other.

My education abroad class opened my eyes to the possibility of using my degree for humanitarian work. I learned a lot about human-centered design and what it means to include your stakeholders in development. The class was extremely memorable, as it was my first engineering course that was all women. We had a lot of fun exploring the blended cultures of Guyana through dance, music, art, sports and, most importantly, food.
