“In a tenement house in Old Havana, I photographed the Rumba All Stars, an Afro-Cuban music and dance group whose energy filled the room. One dancer, dressed in vibrant blue, moved in rhythm with her bandmates, radiating pride and joy. My high-school Spanish helped bridge the language gap, making the image meaningful not only for its beauty, but for the cultural connection we shared in that moment.”
