Janet Smith, assistant director of outreach for the East Asian Studies Center and Amanda Yusko, program manager for the international student team in the Office of International Affairs, are recipients of the 2024 Distinguished Staff Award, the highest honor bestowed upon staff at Ohio State.

The Office of international Affairs (OIA) awarded close to $100,000 in grants to seven faculty, 21 graduate students, and two undergraduate students to conduct international research and scholarship projects abroad and in the United States. Awards ranged between $1,000 and $4,000, and will be used during the 2024-25 academic year.

From Brazil to Uganda, Estonia to South Korea and everywhere in between, faculty and students will travel to 18 different countries to advance their research and expand their global engagement.

On March 28, 2024, Interim Executive Vice President and Provost Karla Zadnik recognized students and faculty from The Ohio State University who are recent Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays recipients and Fulbright student semifinalists, as well as visiting Fulbright students and scholars from around the globe, during a reception at the Thompson Library.

Why is Brazil an important gateway for Ohio State? 

Brazil is a strategic country to connect Ohio State to the Latin American region. David Goodman, '07 MA Chinese, has established a successful career in real estate following his time at Ohio State. The Ohio State University is ranked 99th among the world’s top universities, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024. Ohio State improved its ranking by 13 spots. The global rankings are based on 18 calibrated performance indicators of research-intensive universities across their core missions of teaching, research, research quality, industry and international outlook.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) International Fellowship Program aims to equip Indian biomedical scientists with advanced training and exposure to cutting-edge knowledge and technology with international experts in their fields. The Ohio State University College of Medicine is one of seven U.S. institutions that will consider fellowship applicants. 

Ohio State and IIT Bombay are working on a Cotutelle PhD program with the candidate being enrolled in both IIT Bombay and Ohio State with academic supervisory from both institutions to address global scientific challenges spanning materials, data analytics and quantum information technologies. This partnership amplifies Ohio State and IIT Bombay's potential, enhancing interdisciplinary faculty research in energy storage, additive manufacturing and photovoltaics.  

The Ohio State University has selected Kaya Şahin, PhD, as its next vice provost for global strategies and international affairs, effective Nov. 1. Şahin currently serves as executive associate dean of the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University (IU).

The Ohio State University has been named one of the world’s top universities, according to the 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings released today. Ohio State is ranked 151st in the world and 35th in the United States.
