Buckeyes are Buckeyes for life! For four Chinese alumni, being a Buckeye has meant maintaining lifelong bonds across continents. Qiuyuan Pan, Yuanfang Zheng, Shanxiao Xie and Lian Wei were part of the first cohorts from mainland China to study at Ohio State in 1979 and 1980. The friends are now in their 70s and 80s and have had successful careers in engineering, robotics, soil mechanics and publishing, all while staying in touch throughout their lives.
Ohio State graduate student Allie Mickle immersed herself in Hong Kong’s art scene
Ohio State PhD Candidate Allie Mickle spent three months in Hong Kong as the gallery and exhibitions visiting fellow at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center (ASHK) during the spring of 2024. While there, she assisted the gallery and exhibitions team by helping open the Wifredo Lam: Homecoming exhibition in the Chantal Miller Gallery.

Ohio State faculty collaborate across international borders
For more than 40 years, Ohio State has been actively collaborating with universities in China. One such partnership with Wuhan University has been vibrant and ongoing since 1981. Over the years, collaborations between Chinese researchers and faculty and Ohio State affiliates has extended across various fields including medical science, water conservancy, student affairs management and services.
China Gateway hosts send-off events to welcome new Buckeyes
Starting college is an exciting experience for any incoming freshman, but it is uniquely challenging prospect for international students. Luckily for Chinese students, the Office of International Affairs' China Gateway office is there to help.
Every summer before students pack up their lives and board planes for Columbus, they host on-the-ground orientations in major cities like Shanghai, Shenzhen and Beijing. This year, the China Gateway staff helped provide orientation and welcome for more than 60 incoming freshman and 40 family members in a series of events throughout July.
