Six faculty grants awarded for Global Gateways Initiative

On October 25, prospective students, parents and Ohio State alumni gathered at the China Gateway office in Shanghai for a lecture by Professor Caroline Wagner from the John Glenn College of Public Affairs.

China Gateway connects with prospective students across China

Throughout autumn of 2023, China Gateway played an important role in establishing connections between students, parents and The Ohio State University in China. In the realm of undergraduate recruitment, the China Gateway team participated in 38 high school visits and college fairs, resulting in meaningful interactions with over 3,000 students and parents from more than 10 different cities such as Suzhou, Hangzhou, Beijing, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Dalian and Harbin.

Alumni Spotlight: Joshua Melching

Joshua Melching, '13 Chinese language and literature and 16' political science, has established a successful career working and living in China after his time at Ohio State. After a foray into supporting WeWork's expansion in Shanghai, he has gone on to a role as client business director for JWDK, a design firm specializing in cultural and place identity in China. Melching shares more about his passion for bridging cultures, what it's like to be a part of the Buckeye family and his advice for current students. 

2023 Open Doors national rankings released

The Ohio State University is ranked 30th among doctoral institutions hosting international students and 40th for the number of students studying abroad, according to a national report released today.

Ohio State enrolled 6,896* international students in 2022, an increase of 4.4 percent from 2021, and 999 students studied abroad in 2021-22 compared to only nine the previous academic year during the height of the pandemic.

Alumni Spotlight: David Goodman

David Goodman, '07 MA Chinese, has established a successful career in real estate following his time at Ohio State. He currently serves as executive director for the Advisory & Transaction Services team at CBRE, a global commercial real estate service and investment firm. Goodman shares more about how Ohio State has helped him achieve professional success and his tips for current students. 

Şahin appointed new VP for global strategies

The Ohio State University has selected Kaya Şahin, PhD, as its next vice provost for global strategies and international affairs, effective Nov. 1. Şahin currently serves as executive associate dean of the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University (IU).

Alumnus Song Qi takes a global view with work in China, Germany

Buckeyes are Buckeyes for life. For alumni like Song Qi, a Fisher College of Business MBA graduate from 1999, this can play out in some unexpected ways. “I was once sitting at the Sydney airport reading a book and waiting to board a flight,” he recalled. “I heard the familiar O-H-I-O from another passenger passing by who also wore a scarlet Ohio State T-shirt. That made my day!”

New Buckeyes from China welcomed with orientation events

The virtual Pre-departure Orientation for international students from China took place on June 17. The event, hosted by the China Gateway and the Offices of International Affairs, Student Academic Excellence and Student Life, provided 143 students and 28 family members with valuable information regarding their upcoming college life.

Ohio State ranked 151st in QS World University Rankings

The Ohio State University has been named one of the world’s top universities, according to the 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings released today. Ohio State is ranked 151st in the world and 35th in the United States.
