IIE publishes Open Doors Report

The Ohio State University is ranked in the top 30 nationally among doctoral institutions hosting international students, according to a national report released today.

Ohio State is 26th in the nation and 6th in the Big Ten with 6,604* international students enrolled in 2021, a decrease of 3.8 percent from 2020.

The outbreak of COVID-19 during the 2020-21 academic year significantly limited the ability for students to study abroad and Ohio State currently is not nationally ranked.

Fulbright U.S. student awards announced

The Ohio State University is pleased to announce that 10 undergraduates and two doctoral candidates received prestigious U.S. Student Fulbright Awards for the 2022-2023 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Brazil Gateway delivers presentation at Instituto Passo-a-Passo

On June 10, the Brazil Gateway team delivered a presentation about Ohio State to the Passo-a-Passo Institute in the city of Itatiba, São Paulo. The institute works on treatment therapy for children with disabilities through interaction with horses and does research in hippotherapy and social responsibility.

Faculty spotlight: Richard Vasques

Richard Vasques, an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Ohio State, visited the Polytechnic Institute (IPRJ) at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) to present a lecture in early July.

Area Studies Centers awarded Title VI grants

Three Ohio State Area Studies Centers have been awarded more than $5.5 million in U.S. Department of Education grants for the next four years. These awards support language and area studies learning and provide grant opportunities for undergraduate, graduate and professional school students.

Brazilian delegations visit campus

Delegations from the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), a public university, and the Dom Cabral Foundation (FDC), a business school, both from the state of Minas Gerais, visited Ohio State in May.

Students and faculty awarded grants with Brazil-related projects

Professors Lucia Costigan, Isis Barra-Costa, Pedro Pereira and Pamela Spinosa de los Monteros were awarded an Arts and Humanities Dean’s Discretionary Grant worth $3,000 for their projects in collaboration with community leaders, such as Kessia Cericola – Moritz College of Law alumna and attorney at Cericola LLC – and Lawrance Ujiie – manager at the Brazilian Grill and Bakery.

Brazil Gateway gives opening remarks at UFMT agricultural event

Bringing together producers, companies, researchers, professionals and students, the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT), through the Sinop Campus AgriScience project, held the 4th Technical Update Meeting and the 4th Agricultural Technological Showcase, Field Day in early May.

“Our objective was to bring producers, professionals, young people and children closer to academic knowledge, technological innovation and scientific production. It is the university performing its function,” said Professor Daniel Carneiro de Abreu, coordinator of the event.

International Affairs recognized with advising award

The Office of International Affairs has been awarded the Wayne Carlson Friend of ACADAOS Award for the 2021-22 academic year. ACADAOS is Ohio State’s internal Academic Advising Association, a professional organization for academic advisors. The award was presented on April 27 at the annual ACADAOS Recognition Ceremony, which honors outstanding advisors and advising administrators.
