Ohio State professors engage Brazilian audiences

In November and December, Fabio Leite, an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at the Lima Campus, taught the virtual workshop “Developing Intercultural Competence: A preparation to study, research or work in another culture or interact with other cultures.” Over 100 Brazilian students and professionals registered to attend the four-part workshop series.

Leite used his experience and the model of intercultural competence developed by Darla Deardorff, a professor from Duke University, to lead participants in reflection exercises aimed at improving participants' abilities to adjust culturally. Leite, a Brazilian living in the United States for over 20 years, has been a professor in psychology at Ohio State for over 15 years and is also the author of "A Long Way From Bitingui: A Journey within the Americas."

On January 31, Joseph Raasdschelders, a professor at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, was a keynote speaker at the opening week of graduate programs at the National School of Public Administration. Sixty-five National School of Public Administration faculty and students joined the virtual talk, “Democracy Through Accountability: A Conceptual Framework for Assessing Government Capacity and Citizen Need.” The event was Ohio State’s first engagement with the school.
