On June 10, the Brazil Gateway team delivered a presentation about Ohio State to the Passo-a-Passo Institute in the city of Itatiba, São Paulo. The institute works on treatment therapy for children with disabilities through interaction with horses and does research in hippotherapy and social responsibility.
Gardenia Oliveira, former post-doc in the Pediatric and Rehabilitation Laboratory at Ohio State, is currently working at Passo-a-Passo and arranged the meeting and presentation so the institute could learn about collaboration opportunities with Ohio State. The group discussed research opportunities and internship possibilities for Ohio State students. The institute works with the concept of voluntourism, which offers volunteers practice handling horses and the experience of country life while donating time to their cause.
