In the photographer's words: "Outside of Ji Nan, a city a few hours south of Beijing, people can climb "Thousand Buddha Mountain."There are a few remote shrines on the very top, and this is one of them. I really like this picture because it shows what China used to be in the form of the shrine, with a modern-day, urbanized city in the background. It shows that even though China is very different and modernized now, its people still place importance on religion and nature. The piece of red cloth in the foreground relates back to an old wives' tale that has to do with the mountain: if you tie a piece of red cloth to something on this mountain and make a wish, your wish will come true. These pieces of cloth can be seen everywhere on the mountain; usually in clusters. I liked this particular piece because it was so isolated and pointed to this shrine that no one seemed to notice."
