Six Maidens

2007 International Photography Exhibition
“Six Maidens"
Location: The Acropolis, Athens, Greece
Photographer: Edwin Clay
Category: Places
Award: Honorable Mention

In the photographer's words: "This is the porch of the famous Caryatides or Maidens - the most interesting part of the Erectheion. The Erectheion is considered the most graceful structure which ancient art ever produced. Instead of columns the south porch has six wonderful statues supporting an entablature. The statues are dressed in Panathenaic costumes. The capitals of their head are designed like baskets. This image exudes the strength, flexibility and charm of Antiquity."
