Buckeyes Abroad: Maya Harvey

This experience gave me a deeper understanding of how global business works, especially in the context of sustainability and logistics. Beyond that, I gained communication and cross-cultural collaboration skills that I know will be valuable no matter what field I go into. It’s made me more globally aware, and I’ll carry that perspective with me as I pursue future opportunities and continue shaping my career,” reflected accounting major Maya Harvey on the Fisher College of Business Freshman Global Lab: Germany program.

Open to first year students in the college, students visit leaders of manufacturing, experts in logistics and an internationally renowned port to highlight their curriculum in an applied setting.

What made this experience so memorable was the perfect mix of learning, exploring, and connecting. Visiting companies like Airbus, Mercedes-Benz and Jack Wolfskin gave me a behind-the-scenes look at how global businesses operate, and getting to learn directly from industry professionals was both eye-opening and inspiring. On top of that, being in a new city like Hamburg, exploring its culture, history and everyday life was unforgettable.”

Company visits included Airbus, Mercedes-Benz and Jack Wolfskin along with excursions to cultural sites and landmarks.

I've always had a passion for experiencing new cultures and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. Learning is something that really excites me and helps me grow. This program felt like the perfect opportunity to combine that personal passion with my interest in global business. Going abroad wasn’t just for one singular reason; it was about growing as a person, expanding my global knowledge academically and culturally and building meaningful connections,” said Harvey.

I learned that I’m more adaptable and open-minded than I thought. Whether it was navigating a new city, engaging with unfamiliar customs or collaborating with classmates in a different setting, I realized that I enjoy being pushed into new environments and learning through the experience. It also reminded me how much I value curiosity, asking questions, listening and seeking out new perspectives.”
