Buckeyes Abroad: Caleb Ferronniere

“This experience was deeply impactful; I learned a lot about potential career opportunities in my major. As we learned about the importance of diplomacy, this trip has reinforced my desire to pursue a career in international relations. We also had the opportunity to network with UN interns and learn about how they got to where they are, which provided valuable insight into how I wish to proceed,” reflected junior international studies major Caleb Ferronniere on the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) - Advanced Training Program experience.

“This program provided a great opportunity to learn about the importance of multilateralism and the UN. We had the opportunity to learn from experts from multiple UN agencies and international organizations. I loved meeting everyone as we explored the beauty of Geneva.”

Students participate in a training program hosted by the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, including overviews, trainings, simulations and other practical, hands-on opportunities to give students a unique window into the UN and provide tools to understand and reflect upon global challenges.

“This was my first opportunity to study abroad. I felt it was important to broaden my horizons, especially because my major is international relations and diplomacy. The experience of traveling and interacting with different people from different cultures and experiences is crucial,” said Ferronniere.

By the end of the experience, students develop a deeper understanding of the UN and multilateral diplomacy, acquire a framework to understand key global issues and foster public speaking abilities.

“I've learned that I can truly accomplish whatever I set my mind to. There was so much to experience and learn on this trip, it was easy to let the opportunities slip by. However, I set out to experience everything to its fullest, and I feel I accomplished that.”
