Buckeyes Abroad: Sydney Savas

Marketing major Sydney Savas shares her experience on the Fisher College of Business Global Marketing: United Kingdom program over spring break.

“It was important for me to study abroad because I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and experience a new culture firsthand. I have always wanted to gain a global perspective, especially in a business setting, and this program allowed me to do that,” reflected Sydney Savas, a marketing major who participated in the Fisher College of Business Global Marketing: United Kingdom program.

During spring break, students explore different aspects of business, culture and global industries in London. Students visit companies like Anthropologie Europe, INEOS, Oriel College Oxford and Engage Works and meet with fellow Fisher alumni to provide real-world insight into how businesses operate internationally. 

“This experience has strengthened my interest in pursuing opportunities with an international focus. Visiting different companies helped me better understand global business practices, and my time at Oriel College sparked my interest in possibly pursuing a master’s degree abroad. Overall, it gave me a broader perspective that I know will be valuable in my future career,” said Savas. 

Going abroad not only delivered an engaging academic and business experience but served as a personal boon for Savas as well. 

“I learned that I am a lot more adaptable and independent than I thought. Being in a new country pushed me to be more confident in myself and my decisions. It also made me realize how much I enjoy experiencing new places and being open to new situations,” she noted. 

Outside of company visits, Savas particularly enjoyed visiting Wimbledon and getting to learn about the history of tennis in England, as well as some interesting anecdotes. 

“I loved exploring the city with my peers and just getting to experience everyday life in the U.K., especially noticing all the small differences that made it unique.”
