Through this experience, I’ve learned how to navigate uncertainty with curiosity and confidence. Being in a new country pushed me outside my comfort zone, but it also showed me that I can adapt quickly, embrace the unknown and approach new challenges with an open and positive mindset,” reflected John Dehn, a marketing major who is currently abroad on the Fisher College of Business Undergraduate Exchange at Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi program.

Dehn is spending the semester in Milan, Italy, taking courses in business strategy, sustainable marketing and digital strategy, allowing him to study global business concepts firsthand and engage with a large international student community.

“This experience has enhanced my ability to think globally and approach business challenges with a broader perspective. Exposure to diverse viewpoints and international case studies has strengthened my strategic thinking and cross-cultural communication skills, which will be valuable in any global or multinational career path,” said Dehn.

Semester-long study abroad programs allow students a new level of independence and cultural immersion, something that attracted Dehn to the experience in the first place.

“It was important for me to gain a global perspective on business while immersing myself in Italian culture. I also wanted to meet people from around the world and broaden my worldview through new experiences and connections,” he stated.

Like any new experience, there are changes that must be worked through, but with a positive attitude and the ability to adapt to these circumstances, Dehn is making the most of his time in Italy.

“The biggest change has been adjusting to a new academic structure and cultural environment. I’ve navigated it by staying proactive, building relationships with classmates and maintaining an open mindset to different ways of learning and collaborating.”
