During a semester-long study abroad program at ISI Florence in Florence, Italy, through Arcadia University’s College of Global Studies, Kate Auletta experienced a transformative blend of personal growth, cultural immersion and academic exploration.
Auletta, a fourth-year student studying human resources and psychology, wanted to use this opportunity to push herself out of her comfort zone.
“I had never taken a formal Italian class before studying abroad, so the language was pretty new to me at first, but I wanted to be able to communicate with the people around me,” said Auletta, “Also, I love to travel, so I thought that a semester abroad would be a great time for me to explore the world!”
Throughout the semester, Auletta cherished the friends that she met along the way, the experiences that made her more independent and the travel she did on the weekends.
However, adapting to life in a new country was not without challenges.
“I had to overcome the language barrier, cultural shock, adjusting to life in a new time zone and acclimating to a new environment where I didn’t know anyone in the city,” explained Auletta.
Reflecting on their experience, Auletta shared, “I have learned that I am capable of doing seemingly hard things and that I am extremely resilient. I have also learned that I have an incredible support system back home.”
The semester in Florence ultimately encouraged Auletta to embrace the global mindset.
“The experience has allowed me to broaden my perspectives, which in turn has greatly increased my analytical skills. This program also allowed me to complete the Global Option in Business program through Fisher,” said Auletta.
