Buckeyes Abroad: Cameron Thompson

“I can use my knowledge of European sport and European sport management when I try to grow in my sport management career in America. I can bring a new and different perspective when it comes to sport because of my knowledge of European sports now,” reflected Cameron Thompson, a rising junior studying sport industry and finance on the European Model of Sport experience.

“It was important for me to see more of the world. I wanted to see how other cultures present and interact with each other. I also wanted to see European sport compared to American sport and see how they relate and differ.”

Led by the College of Education and Human Ecology, students are introduced to the European model of sport management, marketing and sports law and provided with an understanding of the changing context for sport in a global society.

“The jam-packed schedule traveling across Europe visiting 4 cities in 11 days was definitely memorable. Getting to see Berlin, Prague, Regensberg, and Munich in such a short amount of time was an awesome fun filled experience,” said Thompson.

During the program, students attend lectures from European sport executives, engage in workshops, participate in organized class discussions and activities, tour sport facilities and take tours of the cities by bike.

“I have learned that I love to see new cities. I always thought I liked to travel, but I have now realized how much I love to learn about new people, areas, and historical facts.”
