Buckeyes Abroad: Matt Levine

“From a career sense, I learned that marketing is never one-size-fits all. Successful companies know their strengths and leverage them. Success isn’t found by marketing a product to everybody; it’s by nailing the things you’re good at. As a finance major, this program was a real-time case study of understanding how synergies and brand strategy drive revenues and results,” reflected senior finance major Matt Levine, who recently returned from the Fisher College of Business Global Marketing: Taiwan experience.

Open to second or third year business students, the program meets with executives from both multi-national and Taiwanese companies while visiting cultural sites such as Elephant Mountain, Shifen and Taipei 101.

“Traveling the world unlocks new worldviews and perspectives that are impossible to find elsewhere. I've always found it important to experience other cultures and going to Taiwan was incredibly meaningful in not just a professional sense, but a personal one too. The hospitality I experienced while abroad is something I will never forget.”

This year, the group visited Kenda Tire, TSMC, and Uni-President Cor. Ltd., allowing students to gain first-hand experience and enhance their resumes.

“I truly experienced the power of the Buckeye community. Everyone from the alumni network to the friends I made as well as Andrew Piletz and Alyssa Kyff who made this program unforgettable. My favorite moment was undoubtedly the night of our alumni dinner in Taipei. As we sang ‘Carmen Ohio’ and shared conversations over food, I had never felt so proud to be a Buckeye,” said Levine.

“This experience reinforced the importance of pushing the boundaries and saying yes to opportunities that come my way. When my friend Jacob approached me about applying for the trip in November, I was hesitant because there were so many moving pieces in my life. Saying yes and embracing the unknown taught me to be spontaneous and adventurous. A healthy dose of both qualities gives you chances for lived experiences that are truly once in a lifetime.”
