Service-learning students share #BuckeyeLove around the world

No matter where they go, Buckeyes spread kindness. For hundreds of students each year, that kindness is shared on a global scale.

During semester breaks and each summer, undergraduate, graduate and professional students alike depart for more than 20 different service-learning programs in locations such as Guatemala, Indonesia and Malawi. The goal? To work hand in hand with communities, support sustainable international development and to prepare for careers as citizen leaders abroad and at home.

2023 International Photography Exhibition winners announced

The 2023 International Photography Exhibition features 40 original photographs taken overseas in 20 different countries by 35 Ohio State students, staff, faculty, visiting scholars and alumni. Over 300 members of the campus community submitted more than 650 photographs across three categories: People, Places and Arts & Culture.

University community celebrates annual Thanksgiving Dinner

A team of university and community volunteers served an early Thanksgiving dinner to students, faculty and staff Wednesday at the Ohio Union.

Every year, The Ohio State University hosts one of the largest Thanksgiving dinners on a college campus. An estimated 1,100 guests attend the free event, held at the Ohio Union in the Archie M. Griffin Ballroom.

The annual Thanksgiving Dinner, now held the day before the holiday, is a 32-year-old tradition that started with 25 Hale Black Cultural Center graduates.

Students celebrate Day of the Dead at Greenlawn Cemetery

October 7 was the first chilly day in Columbus, Ohio as summer came to an end. Ohio State students and community members came together at Greenlawn Cemetery to celebrate Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, and pulled out their boots, hats, flannel shirts and sweaters to keep the brisk air at bay.

Former Ghanaian President John Mahama visits Ohio State ahead of re-election bid

John Mahama was the president of Ghana from 2012 to 2017, following a decades-long career serving as a member of Parliament and then vice president for the West African nation. The Ohio State University’s Center for African Studies hosted a visit and lecture from Mahama on October 27. Mahama shared sweeping insights about pan-African history, the rise and challenges of African democracy and his vision for a thriving Africa in the years to come.

Ohio State ranked 99th in World University Rankings 2024

The Ohio State University is ranked 99th among the world’s top universities, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024. Ohio State improved its ranking by 13 spots. The global rankings are based on 18 calibrated performance indicators of research-intensive universities across their core missions of teaching, research, research quality, industry and international outlook.

Şahin appointed new VP for global strategies

The Ohio State University has selected Kaya Şahin, PhD, as its next vice provost for global strategies and international affairs, effective Nov. 1. Şahin currently serves as executive associate dean of the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University (IU).

Resources to support a diverse and inclusive campus

Ohio State is committed to a safe and welcoming campus, a comprehensive and inclusive education, and a truly anti-racist community for all. All too often there are examples of antisemitism, racism and other hateful behavior reported in the national news.

Diversity and inclusion are essential components of Ohio State's excellence, and the university's shared values establish the commitment to reinforce an ethical culture. There is no place for hate at Ohio State. 

Rajmohan Gandhi: Lessons on reconciliation

Rajmohan Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, has dedicated his life’s work to preserving his grandfather’s legacy of nonviolence and reconciliation. A historian, biographer and human rights activist, Gandhi shared his insight with the Ohio State community on September 7 when he delivered two lectures. His talks focused on the 1947 partition of India and the critical message of peaceful resolution left by one of the world’s best known political and spiritual leaders.
