Shameka Poetry Thomas has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Scholar award to research the complex overlap between sickle cell disease and reproductive health on a global scale between Jamaica, Ghana and the United States.
Four graduate students and one alumna will conduct research abroad in diverse fields including entomology in Chile, anthropology in Poland, ethnographic family studies in Canada, genetic dermatology in South Africa, and cervical cancer screening in Brazil, with projects aimed at advancing scientific understanding and community health.

Eugenia Costa-Giomi has been awarded a 2026-2027 Fulbright U.S. Scholar award to Brazil to research “Growing up musical: The cultural context of infants’ soundscapes.”
Darren Drewry, Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, has been awarded a 2026-2027 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award to Portugal to research “Development of Advanced High Throughput Phenotyping Methods for Management of Perennial Agriculture.”
