The East Asian Studies Center (EASC) has been awarded a $120,000 grant from the Freeman Foundation, a private foundation whose mission is to strengthen the connections between the United States and countries of East Asia. The grant will support summer internships in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan or other select Asian countries for about 15 undergraduate students, and will be arranged and overseen by EASC. This is the third consecutive year that EASC has been selected to receive the grant.
Students can apply for a Freeman Foundation East Asia Internship Scholarship to support the following internship options:
- Internships arranged through the Office of International Affairs:
- Internships approved directly by EASC. Contact white.3941@osu.edu for internship openings or view options on the EASC website
“Going abroad was important to me because it gave me the chance to fully immerse myself in a new environment and challenge myself outside of my comfort zone. Being in a new culture has helped me see the world from a broader perspective and appreciate the diversity of experiences it offers.” Owen Blevins, EASC scholarship recipient on the Fisher Global Internships: Japan program in 2025
Successful applicants could receive up to $7,000 to offset costs associated with the internship programs managed by the Office of International Affairs or to cover airfare, housing and other expenses if choosing an internship approved by EASC.
The application will be available in November. Application deadlines are December 11, 2026 and February 12, 2027 (tentative schedule).
