Applications open August 23, 2026 for eligible Ohio State students to apply for funding to cover the cost of obtaining a U.S. passport, an essential first step to travel internationally. The application will be available on Scholarship Universe.
In May, Ohio State was selected as one of 40 U.S. colleges and universities to receive an American Passport Project grant from the Institute of International Education. The $4,125 grant will provide funding for up to 25 Pell-eligible Buckeyes to obtain a U.S. passport.
Students who apply must be a United States citizen aged 18 or older and eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. Preference will be given to those in their first year of school and who have not previously held an adult U.S. passport. The goal of this program is to increase access to international education and lower cost barriers for students who may want to study abroad through Ohio State or travel internationally independently.
The application will be available on Scholarship Universe, under the name 2026-2027 IIE American Passport Project Scholarship. Students can log in with their Ohio State username and password. The application will close on November 13, 2026.
