The CFAES Rattan Lal Center for Carbon Management and Sequestration has launched a new partnership with the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) and the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), both in India. This vibrant scholar exchange program will strengthen research ties across continents and between the universities.

Beginning this year, the exchange program will welcome four scholars annually from these esteemed institutions to The Ohio State University. The scholars will study, collaborate and conduct research under the guidance of Rattan Lal and his team. The first two scholars, Ram Swaroop Bana (IARI) and Gobinder Singh (PAU), arrived in March. This initiative reflects Lal’s longstanding commitment to nurturing the next generation of scientists and fostering international cooperation in agricultural and environmental research.

Scholars selected for the program will gain full access to the worldclass facilities and resources of the CFAES Rattan Lal Center for Carbon Management and Sequestration, including research laboratories, field projects, academic mentorship, and professional development opportunities. The partnership is designed to create a dynamic environment for learning, innovation and cultural exchange—strengthening global efforts to advance soil health, carbon management and sustainable land stewardship.

The institutions are two of Lal’s alma maters in India. This new collaboration not only honors Lal’s legacy and connection to his roots in India but also sets the stage for transformative research that spans continents.
