For first-year economics student Run Tian, attending Ohio State as an international student affords him a stimulating environment in the classroom and a relaxing and inviting one around campus. As a lifelong athlete, he balances his courseload with plenty of time at his other favorite spots at the university.
“My dream university life is a perfect compromise between work and relaxation,” said Tian. “I realized at Ohio State that I would be in an environment that was capable of capitalizing on and watering all my interests. I am not only willing to be a student reading economic theories in the library, but also a team member, working hard at the RPAC.”
Tian was inspired to pursue economics through his pervious coursework and real-world experience in China, where he worked with the Easy Go Internship Camp of China CITIC Bank and he even helped a professor update a textbook.
“Due to all these enriching projects, my interest and knowledge levels of the economics studies particularly the applied economics concentration have been increasing day by day. My dream is to immerse myself into applied financial economics,” said Tian.
His favorite part about being a Buckeye is the beautiful campus and the spaces that it has to offer. Tian is taking full advantage of spots like Thompson Library and the RPAC as he continues his studies.
“I particularly like working in Thompson Library as the environment in this place is highly concentrated and encouraging. I also like the Oval and Mirror Lake that is also a beautiful out of the house area where I can rest,” said Tian. “I greatly enjoy studying and relaxing in inspiring and quiet places, which I am very happy about when it comes to life in Ohio State.”
Tian encourages other Chinese students who want a similar experience to step out of their comfort zones and take advantage of all the resources on a large campus like Ohio State.
“When you are studying abroad, it seems that the process can be quite difficult, but these difficulties make you develop and become stronger,” said Tian. “Become part of clubs, go to parties, become a volunteer. These activities enable you to make friends, speak English and learn other cultures. People you meet with different backgrounds will have a lot to teach you.”
