Ohio State is nation's top producer of Fulbright U.S. Scholars and tied for seventh for Fulbright U.S. Students

The Ohio State University is the top producer of Fulbright U.S. Scholars for the 2024-25 academic year among all colleges and universities in the United States with 14 selected for the prestigious award. Ohio State is tied for 7th among doctoral institutions for the Fulbright U.S. Student program with 24 awardees (15 undergraduate and nine graduate).

The rankings were released today by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, which also named Ohio State as one of only 19 institutions recognized as a top producer for both the Fulbright U.S. Student and Fulbright U.S. Scholar programs.

This is the second time in the last five years that Ohio State has been ranked the nation's top producer for Fulbright U.S. Scholars. The university had 15 Fulbright scholars in the 2020-21 academic year.

“The Fulbright program provides firsthand experience for our students and faculty to immerse themselves in another culture while teaching, conducting research and engaging with communities across the globe,” said Kaya Şahin, vice provost for global strategies and international affairs. “It is a life-changing and enriching academic experience that creates valuable connections for future collaborations, and we are proud that Ohio State is once again recognized as a top producer.”

Ohio State’s Fulbright students and scholars traveled to 27 different countries and represent the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, Education and Human Ecology, Medicine, Public Health, Public Affairs and Veterinary Medicine.

“We are incredibly proud of all of our Fulbright recipients and applicants; they truly showcase the academic excellence of Ohio State students,” said Ola Ahlqvist, associate vice provost of academic enrichment. “Throughout the Fulbright application process, our students articulate how their Buckeye experience translates into their future role as global citizens. Their success is a testament to the quality, rigor, and value of an Ohio State education. And it would not be possible without the dedication and expertise of our faculty and staff.”

As part of the university’s commitment to global engagement and to encourage students, faculty and staff to apply for Fulbright awards, Ohio State annually hosts Fulbright Week to promote the Fulbright program through a series of events including workshops, presentations and other activities. This year Fulbright Week will be held March 31 – April 4 with both virtual and in-person activities and information sessions.

Over 2,200 U.S. students and over 900 U.S. colleges and university faculty and administrators are awarded Fulbright grants annually. In addition, 4,000 Fulbright Foreign Students and Visiting Scholars come to the United States annually to study, lecture, conduct research or teach their native language. Fulbright is active in more than 160 countries.
