GOHi provides real-time PCR training

Experts from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and The Ohio State University Global One Health initiative (GOHi) provided real-time PCR training to detect genetic markers associated with Carbapenem Resistance as part of the CDC-funded Global Action in Healthcare Network Antimicrobial Resistance (GAIHN-AR) project.

GOHi team members Zelalem Mekuria and Tadesse Eguale provided virtual and e-learning modules for staff members from the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) on basic laboratory and molecular biology using the CDC e-learning platform.

International Fellowship Program builds capacity

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) International Fellowship Program aims to equip Indian biomedical scientists with advanced training and exposure to cutting-edge knowledge and technology with international experts in their fields. The Ohio State University College of Medicine is one of seven U.S. institutions that will consider fellowship applicants. 

Alumni Spotlight: Anu Shultes

Anu Shultes ’03 MBA balanced the demands of motherhood and her academic studies, all while making the 120-mile commute from Cincinnati to Columbus to complete her degree at Ohio State.

Ohio State and IIT Bombay expand partnership

Ohio State and IIT Bombay are working on a Cotutelle PhD program with the candidate being enrolled in both IIT Bombay and Ohio State with academic supervisory from both institutions to address global scientific challenges spanning materials, data analytics and quantum information technologies. This partnership amplifies Ohio State and IIT Bombay's potential, enhancing interdisciplinary faculty research in energy storage, additive manufacturing and photovoltaics.  

Send-off events build foundation for new students

The India Gateway and the Alumni Club of South India made sure the newest Buckeyes from India would be well prepared for the first day of classes at The Ohio State University by hosting send-off events in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Close to 50 students and their families participated in the gatherings, which fostered connections and provided insight from alumni and current students about university life, the campus environment, food options and a myriad of opportunities.   

Chavan selected as a 2023 alumni award honoree

Madhav Chavan '83 PhD, a distinguished chemist turned educator, is this year's recipient of the Robert M. Duncan Alumni Citizenship Award. Chavan has been recognized by The Ohio State University Alumni Association for his exceptional contributions to education and transforming the lives of underprivileged children in his native India.

Şahin appointed new VP for global strategies

The Ohio State University has selected Kaya Şahin, PhD, as its next vice provost for global strategies and international affairs, effective Nov. 1. Şahin currently serves as executive associate dean of the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University (IU).

The Ohio State University has been named one of the world’s top universities, according to the 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings released today. Ohio State is ranked 151st in the world and 35th in the United States.

GOHi hosts biosafety and biosecurity training

The Global One Health initiative (GOHi) collaborated with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) to train 26 health professionals from severe acute respiratory infections (SARI)/influenza-like illness (ILI) sites and influenza testing laboratories on specimen management, biosafety and biosecurity for three days.

The training aimed to improve specimen collection, storage and packaging and the referral system for testing respiratory infections, including influenza, COVID-19 and Respiratory Syncytia Viruses (RSV).
