Leuel Lisanwork graduated with his Doctor of Medicine from Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia in 2016. After graduating, he joined Ambo University as a lecturer and general practitioner. He then joined the Ohio State Global One Health, LLC as a study physician for the WHIP3/TB Challenge Tuberculosis (TB) study (WHIP3/TB) project in 2018.
The WHIP3/TB Challenge project was a multi-country collaborative clinical trial project with Aurum Institute, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and led by Ohio State’s College of Medicine with support from GOHi.
After completing the WHIP3/TB project, Lisanwork worked as a monitoring and evaluation specialist for GOHi’s Food Safety project, TARTARE, as well as other GOHi projects. In addition, he coordinated surveillance and survey portfolios in various public health areas.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, he was re-assigned to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act project as a surveillance coordinator, a vital role in ensuring this project’s success. This project is a five-year, multi-partner program funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to strengthen Ethiopia’s core International Health Regulation (IHR) capabilities.
Lisanwork was recently promoted to project manager in the GOHi Eastern Africa office to support Global Health Security and IHR projects under the technical director. Since joining the GOHi Eastern Africa Office, he graduated with his Master of Public Health from Addis Ababa Medical and Business College and received “Best Performance” recognition in 2020.
