The India Gateway is exploring potential research partnerships with the Institute of Microbial Technology (CSIR-IMTECH), one research institute among a network of 38 national laboratories, six units and 39 outreach centers of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, managed by the Government of India.
CSIR-IMTECH leaders Sanjeev Khosla, director, and Govindan Rajamohan, senior principal scientist, met with Vishwajeet Phopale, Business Development Specialist, India Gateway, in February to explore various potential collaborations. Rajamohan completed his post-doctoral research fellowship in antimicrobial resistance at Ohio State in 2012, under the guidance of Wondwossen Gebreyes, executive director, Global One Health initiative.
The identified areas of mutual interest included: focused workshops/webinars intended for PhD/post-doc level students, joint faculty-led research projects, joint signature conference, and exchange programs. The India Gateway is reaching out to different departments and institutes on campus to gauge interest for a potential collaboration.
CSIR-IMTech's team of 55 scientists have cutting edge research and development expertise in the areas of expression of recombinant/engineered proteins and their scale-up; understanding and manipulating proteins and their engineering; protein structure determination through x-ray crystallography; molecular microbiology of pathogens, immunology of infectious diseases; yeast genetics; screening of microorganisms for novel enzymatic activities and strain improvement; bioinformatics and high end computational biology; microbial taxonomy and metagenomics, and allied areas like technology and business management and intellectual property protection.
The India Gateway has facilitated faculty engagements with CSIR-IMTECH in the past including a guest lecture on vaccine development by Abhay Satoskar, professor and vice chair, Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Department of Pathology, in July 2019.
