Jordan Harkins, senior marketing major, received the Daniel G. Amstutz International Studies Scholarship for her Fisher Industry Immersion Global Lab summer 2022 program that explored four cities in Italy and visited six separate companies.
The Daniel G. Amstutz International Studies Scholarship Fund was established to support undergraduate or graduate students engaged in the study of and/or research of international trade or other international topics.
The Fisher Industry Immersion Global Lab program travelled with a group of 18 students and two advisors. Experiences included industry visits to companies within Italy as well as time exploring four beautiful Italian cities – Padua, Venice, Verona and Milan.
“With this scholarship, I didn’t have to focus on the financial aspects of the trip – I could fully embrace the culture, language and people to get the most out of this experience,” remarked Harkins on the impact of the scholarship.
Harkins knew she wanted to experience global education ever since coming to Ohio State and chose the Fisher Industry Immersion Global Lab because she knew it was the right fit.
After the program, Harkins reflected on the importance of this experience in shaping her academic experience.
“Academically, I now have a large interest in continuing to study Italian formally in order to speak it proficiently,” Harkins said. “Personally, I plan to return to Italy to explore more of the country. Professionally, I’ve been exposed to a variety of different work cultures that I’ve never seen before.”
