Five international alumni took home medals at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. All were student-athletes on the Ohio State women's ice hockey team during their collegiate playing careers. Canadians Jenn Gardiner '24, Sophie Jaques '23, Emma Maltais '23 and Natalie Spooner '12 all took home silver medals after Team USA defeated Canada 2-1 in overtime in the final. Winning bronze for the Buckeyes was Switzerland's Andrea Braendli '22 with the 2-1 overtime win over Sweden.
Spooner now has four Olympic medals, including a gold, two silvers and a bronze. Emma Maltais adds a second Olympic medal to her collection; she has a gold and a silver medal. Braendli's bronze is her first Olympic medal in three appearances.
Women's ice hockey accounts for 17 of Ohio State's 19 individual Winter Olympians and the vast majority of their hardware.
