Three students awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for summer 2026

Three Ohio State students have been awarded the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs for summer 2026.

Summer 2026 Recipients

  • Anya Peterman, fourth year studying industrial design (Fisher Global Internships: Spain)
    • “Being awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship is an incredible honor that affirms my goals as a designer. This opportunity allows me to grow beyond the classroom and immerse myself in Barcelona’s rich design culture. I’m excited to learn from international perspectives and bring those experiences back to my work and community."
  • Leon Norman, third year majoring in food, agricultural and biological engineering (Japanese American Design Experience)
    • “Receiving the  Gilman  Scholarship helps me greatly with being able to afford a study abroad program, making the overall experience less of a financial burden so that I can enjoy the actual study abroad experience. With this funding, I plan to do the Japanese American Design Experience (JADE) program in May. I am really looking forward to meeting and being able to connect Japanese students as well as being able to learn about the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).”

The scholarship is awarded twice annually, with deadlines every March and October. Students interested in applying for the upcoming cycle are encouraged to learn more and apply.
