Beijing Alumni Club named Club and Society of the Year

The Beijing Alumni Club is the recipient of the 2025 Club and Society of the Year Award, which honors an outstanding organization within The Ohio State University Alumni Association community that exemplifies the university’s mission and values through its actions, initiatives and impact.

Officially founded in 2017, the Beijing Alumni Club has grown from just 10 members into a thriving community of more than 1,000 Buckeyes. What began with events attended by a single alumnus has evolved into a robust calendar of more than 30 events each year. That growth reflects the dedication and collaborative spirit of the club’s leadership team and local alumni.

The club proudly celebrates Ohio State’s traditions with annual watch parties for marquee football games against Penn State, Michigan, Texas and Notre Dame, often in partnership with fellow alumni clubs.

Organizing these events has meant overcoming challenges such as late-night or early-morning kickoffs, securing venues and broadcasts and coordinating with other universities. Even so, the gatherings consistently drew more than 80 participants, strengthening connections while celebrating Buckeye pride.

The Beijing Alumni Club also has become a respected partner across the global alumni community and maintains active relationships with alumni groups in Hong Kong, Taiwan, London, Boston, Florida, Seattle, Brazil, Singapore and Canada. Over the years, it has co-hosted and participated in more than 20 events on topics such as artificial intelligence, career development, family activities, outdoor wellness and networking—collaborating with more than 20 alumni clubs worldwide.

Notably, a collaboration with Duke University, the University of Chicago and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology brought together more than 500 participants for a series of AI-focused events that helped alumni and friends expand their knowledge and professional networks.

The Beijing Alumni Club also works closely with Ohio State’s China Gateway, located in Shanghai, to support prospective and current students through pre-departure orientations, volunteer efforts and mentorship.

“Our vision is the make the Beijing Alumni Club a “home away from home” for all Buckeyes,” said Xi Wang, '10, '13 MBLE. The club remains committed to building a community rooted in care, honesty, integrity and support—for each other, for local communities, for Ohio State and for the world.”

The Beijing Alumni Club was recognized at the annual Alumni Awards ceremony on September 12 at the Longaberger Alumni House.
