Spring semester, the Ohio State's Center for Discourse Analysis and Video Ethnography, hosted the "Discourse Analysis Symposium," led by Professor Stephanie Power-Carter from the Department of Teaching and Learning. The symposium brought together interdisciplinary scholars, researchers and doctoral students to explore emerging directions in discourse analysis and ethnographic research in education, particularly in culturally diverse contexts.
The event highlighted a growing relationship between Ohio State and several Brazilian institutions – University of São Paulo, Federal University of Ouro Preto, Federal University of Juiz de Fora, Instituto de Biociencias and Federal University of ABC – as well as INALCO, which is located in Paris.
Ten scholars from Brazil and one from France participated, with pre-symposium visits to local schools and collaborative meetings with Ohio State faculty.
"It was an excellent experience to have the opportunity to talk with researchers and professors from different disciplines. My greatest learning at OSU was that, together, we are and can do much more than we can imagine." shared Nilmara Mozzer, a professor at the Federal University of Ouro Preto.
The symposium played a key role in advancing international collaboration and supported a recent Memorandum of Understanding between the College of Education and Human Ecology and three Brazilian universities: Federal University of Minas Gerais, Federal University of ABC and University of São Paulo.
"It was truly wonderful to be at OSU, especially because of the warm welcome from all the professors we met during our time there. They took great care of us, and this kindness made all the difference—fostering an environment of mutual engagement, learning, and exchange among scholars from different places." said Rafael Pelletti, a PhD student from the University of São Paulo.
