Morrison-Beedy to lead GOHi outreach and community engagement

A decade-long career turning research into practice has led Dianne Morrison-Beedy to her newest role at Ohio State: director of outreach and community engagement for the Global One Health initiative (GOHi).

With Ohio State since 2018, Morrison-Beedy is the chief talent and global strategy officer and Centennial Professor of Nursing in the College of Nursing where she works to improve students’ education and expand faculty research and partnerships around the world. In addition to these responsibilities, she will work to grow GOHi’s connections throughout the university and across the globe.

GOHi builds international expertise by engaging students, faculty, researchers and clinicians through subject matter workshops and webinars and joint research and educational endeavors. It also connects individuals and interdisciplinary teams who are passionate about advancing One Health worldwide.

“My hope in this role is to expand both the number of people involved and dedicated to advancing a healthy, enduring global community and build interconnections that are broader and have a deeper reach across disciplines,” Morrison-Beedy said.

As the university’s largest interdisciplinary example of institutional teamwork operating on a global scale, all 15 colleges work to build capacity among health professionals, address the spread of disease and improve the health of communities across the United States, Africa, Central and South America and Asia.

“Sometimes, I feel like GOHi is a ‘hidden gem’ at Ohio State – we have passionate, committed, tenacious faculty and team members within GOHi, but we are, as they say, “small but mighty. My hope in this role is to expand both the number of people involved and dedicated to advancing a healthy, enduring global community and build interconnections that are broader and have a deeper reach across disciplines,” Morrison-Beedy said. “If you care about more efficiently and effectively addressing the causes and effects of diseases at the interface of humans, animals, plants and the environment and making the world a healthier place, then you need to join our GOHi team!”

Morrison-Beedy recently held a webinar – “Follow your yellow brick road: Sage career advice for success from the Wizard of Oz” – where she discusses career advice and how we can learn lessons from this classic movie.
