Krish Deshmukh is a first-year majoring in computer science and engineering in the College of Engineering. Deshmukh took time to share insights into his experience at Ohio State.

How did you choose Ohio State?

Many factors influenced my decision to become a Buckeyes, but a key one was having family in Ohio, along with Ohio State being the best university in the state. Additionally, I was impressed by the College of Engineering program’s reputation and the positive interactions I had with faculty and alumni during my decision-making process.

How did you meet other Buckeyes?

The India Gateway was incredibly helpful in answering my pre-arrival questions. Their send-off party was a great way to connect with other students heading to Ohio State. I also joined clubs like the Indian Students Association (ISA) before arriving, and their welcome events on campus helped me meet new friends and feel at home.

What is residence life experience like for you?

I’m currently part of the Living Learning Community (LEAP) for Engineers, Architects, and Planners. This program connects like-minded individuals and provides an engaging environment to live and learn alongside peers with similar goals.

How are you finding the academics?

My classroom experience has been both challenging and rewarding. While some coursework feels straightforward, the workload can quickly add up, so staying on top of assignments through Carmen has been crucial. I visit campus libraries daily, which helps me focus and collaborate with friends in a quiet, productive environment.

How are you connecting with friends and family?

Staying in touch with friends and family has been easy. I call or text my family back home daily. On campus, I meet close friends regularly. For professional connections, I rely primarily on LinkedIn.

What has been a highlight of the semester?

My favorite experience so far has been Light Up the Lake, an event where Mirror Lake was illuminated beautifully. It happened to coincide with the first snowfall of the year, making it an unforgettable and magical moment.
