The East Asian Studies Center (EASC) received a $100,000 grant from the Freeman Foundation, a private foundation whose mission is to strengthen the connections between the United States and countries of East Asia. This grant will support summer internships in East Asia for about 15 undergraduate students, and will be arranged and overseen by EASC. The award offers EASC the opportunity to renew the grant for additional funds in subsequent years.
Students can apply for a Freeman Foundation East Asia Internship Scholarship to support the following internship options:
- Internships managed through the Office of International Affairs: Fisher Global Internships: Japan, Kyoto University of Advanced Sciences and ISA Advanced Language Internship Program in Seoul, South Korea.
- Internships approved directly by EASC.
Successful applicants could receive up to $6,500 to offset costs associated with the internship programs managed by the Office of International Affairs or to cover airfare, housing and other expenses if choosing an internship approved by EASC.
The application will be available in November and will be due January 10, 2025. Complete details can be viewed on the EASC website.
Specific placements and participating companies and organizations may vary. Students can attend one of the online information sessions to learn more about opportunities in Japan, Taiwan or South Korea.
