Buckeyes Abroadcasts, an education abroad podcast, has made its official debut.

Hosted by Ryan Vonderhaar and Charlie Gbur, Buckeyes Abroadcasts will discuss education abroad programs, resident directors, ways to stay globally engaged while remaining in the U.S. and the basics of education abroad including program type, how to apply for a program, grants and scholarships and more.

IAU Virtual Global Experiences - Hear about a new suite of virtual programs from the Institute for American Universities (IAU). Jessica Calhoun, assistant dean of admission, tells us how Ohio State students can participate in virtual internships, consulting projects, social impact practicums and online courses.

ISA Global Remote Internships - Meet Jenna Azotea, education abroad specialist, to learn more about ISA’s Global Remote Internship program. Students may participate in credit and non-credit bearing internship opportunities.

Student Stories - Rachael Cline - Professional Soccer Club, Turf Internship - On the first Student Stories segment, hear from recent graduate, Rachael Cline, who interned abroad in Liverpool, England through the Ohio Program. Although this internship is only available to CFAES students, Rachael’s experiences and the lessons she learned along the way are both interesting and useful to any student interested in interning abroad. 

Student Stories - Ellora Majumder - Pink Mask Virtual Internship - When Ellora Majumder's education abroad plans were interrupted because of the ongoing pandemic, she decided to take advantage of one of the many virtual opportunities available to her through the Office of International Affairs. Ellora is a senior logistics management major and participated in a virtual global internship in summer 2020 with Pink Mask, an Argentinian nail product company as a marketing intern.

Student Stories - Olivia Sergent - Exploring Japan - In this episode, alumna Olivia Sergent tells us how her interest in Japanese language and culture led her to participate on two different types of education abroad programs during her time at Ohio State. Hear more about the time she spent traveling with Ohio State faculty and students on the Japanese Language and Culture in Kobe program as well as her academic year spent at the University of Tsukuba.

Interested in the Peace Corps? - Ryan interviews Peace Corps on-campus Recruiter Laura Joseph on her experience volunteering abroad. Laura shares her story of what led her to join the Peace Corps and some of her experiences while she was volunteering abroad. Ryan and Laura discuss the impact of volunteering abroad and the importance of global citizenship. This episode is a great resource for students who are considering volunteering for the Peace Corps and want to learn more about the application process and what it's like to serve in a foreign country.

Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) - Exploring OIA Area Studies Centers - In this episode of Buckeyes Abroadcasts, we hear from Leila Vieira and Julio Beltrán Tapia from the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS). The mission of the Center for Latin American Studies is to serve, facilitate, and stimulate the teaching, research, and intellectual interests of OSU faculty and students in all matters dealing with Latin America. This episode discusses CLAS' current outreach projects, Capoeira in the Classroom project, other projects and initiatives such as the "Day of the Dead" Brutus Coloring Contest, and other ways to get involved with CLAS.

The Center for African Studies (CAS) - Exploring OIA Area Studies Centers - In this episode, we hear from Ousman Kobo and Jacien Carr from the Center for African Studies (CAS). The mission of the Center for African Studies is to disseminate knowledge and promote inquiry about Africa throughout OSU, Columbus, Ohio, and the nation as a whole. This episode discusses CAS's outreach projects, involvement with current students, CAS's participation in the US Department of State's Diplomacy Lab, and other ways to get involved with CAS.

Student Stories - Trinity Raber - England/Scotland: Agricultural and Environmental Communication - In this episode, we hear from SENR senior Trinity Raber about her experience as a student on the England/Scotland: Agricultural and Environmental Communication faculty-led program. Trinity discusses how she used STEP funds to finance her study abroad program, traveling with students from the University of Arkansas, and learning about how agricultural and environmental news is communicated to a mass audience in the UK. She also discusses in-country highlights including touring and getting to speak with members of Parliament, visiting Stonehedge, and getting to learn from news companies including Farmer's Guardian, the largest agricultural information business in the UK.

Buckeyes Network Abroad - Student Experience Kelsey Isley - In this episode of Buckeyes Abroadcasts, we hear from third-year communications student Kelsey Isley about her experience participating in the Buckeyes Network Abroad program in London, England. Kelsey discusses the benefits of the zero-dollar program fee, the opportunity to contribute to the program's itinerary, and getting to meet with and form bonds with other program participants before traveling abroad. She also discusses in-country highlights including networking with Ohio State alumni in London, sightseeing around the city, and gaining practical real-world experience.

Between France and Morocco - Student Experience Chelsy Perez - In this episode of Buckeyes Abroadcasts, we hear from world politics student Chelsy Perez about her experience participating in the Between France and Morocco study abroad program. Chelsy discusses how her upbringing inspired her program choice, learning about cultural norms before traveling, and connecting and meeting with people from across the globe. She also discusses in-country highlights including visiting the Medina of Marrakesh, dancing with locals in Marrakesh, and staying with a host family in Aix-en-Provence, France.

The U.S., Europe, and the Second World War - Interactions in 20th Century History - Student Experience Ashley Meyersburg - In this episode of Buckeyes Abroadcasts, we hear from pre-dental hygiene student Ashley Meyersburg about her experience participating in The U.S., Europe, and the Second World War- Interactions in 20th Century History study abroad program. Ashley discusses how the program counts towards her history minor, traveling outside of the U.S. for the first time, the classes associated with the program, and preparing to travel abroad. She also discusses in-country highlights including exploring museums, touring Auschwitz, and visiting Normandy and Berlin.

Australia: Human Impacts on the Natural Environment - Student Experience Lauren Glessman - In this episode of Buckeyes Abroadcasts, we hear from Environment, Economy, Development, and Sustainability (EEDS) student Lauren Glessman about her experience as a student on the Australia: Human Impacts on the Natural Environment faculty-led program. Lauren discusses what she did to prepare to go abroad, the benefits of learning from native Australians, and her favorite memories from the program. She discusses in-country highlights including snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, staying with a homestay family, and getting to visit many parts of Australia.
