Due to the preliminary injunction by a federal court on September 14, 2026, which paused a new federal immigration rule change affecting international students and visiting scholars in the United States, immigration information on this website is subject to change. Ohio State is monitoring these developments and will update this website as additional information becomes available.

Intercultural Competence Certificate

Ohio State is committed to advancing Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) opportunities for students and faculty to ensure transformative intercultural experiences.

The Intercultural Competence for Global Citizenship certificate provides a pathway for students to engage in deep inquiry and develop intercultural competence through experiential learning. Undergraduate students who take COIL courses through general education or their majors can apply for the Intercultural Competence certificate. Students are required to complete a specific set of courses as well as participate in global learning experiences, which provide real-world intercultural interactions and reflection opportunities.

“The COIL experience has allowed me the opportunity to explore Turkish culture through various lenses; first through learning about the culture and geopolitics, and then through making meaningful connections with students across the globe, gaining their insights and perspectives.”
